Tin Tsz, General of the Chinese cause in the
Canton Province of the Shun T'in Kingdom of the Ming Dynasty issues the following notice, for the purpose of seeking and
procuring brave men and herces; -
Whereas since ancient times brave men have sprung
out of the exigencies of time, and heroes have promptly come forward, as occasion required. Therefore the Emperor Leng,
having procured I Loi, succeeded in abolishing the Han
Dynasty. The Emperor Mo, having secured the services of T'an
and Weng, in raising the Chin Dynasty. Cheung, Han, Tso and
Tsui, known as the heroes among men, assisted the Hen Dynas-
ty. Ma, Ngai, Fong and Lo having been invested with great
powers were enabled to raise up the Leng Dynasty. In the Sung
Dynasty Kan, Li, Lai and Cheung were raised to high offices,
and together managed the affairs of the Empire, which was
then in peace. In the Ming Dynasty, Lau, Chun, Cheung and Ip
were selected for high office and the Empire enjoyed peace
and happiness. This is really because the recommendations of
able men were accepted by the Emperor; and in the battlefield
their wisdom and ability were displayed to the fullest extent.
Whether a thing ought to be done or not, the Emperor always listened to their recommendations, and in the employment of
officials, the Emperor always followed the rule laid down by
these men. Hence the whole nation enjoyed peace, and thus by
listening to the recommendations of these men, the whole
nation was enabled to enjoy peace, and the people be happy.
I, the General, have come from a very low descent,
and my ability is very small. Further I feel very sad, that
we Chinese, brothers of the same blood, have repeatedly
